Indiana Area Code Overlays
(812 and 930) - (317 and 463)

Indiana is currently using eight area codes. Indiana utilizes two area code overlay plans.

Indiana originally had three area codes, 219,317 and 812, when the numbering system was established in 1947. It was not until thirty years later in 1997 that Indiana experienced sufficient growth in population and telephone use to need an additional area code. To meet this increase in demand there were three area code splits. One was in 1997 and two were in 2002.
