Ohio Area Code Overlays
(330 and 234) - (419 and 567)

Ohio is currently using ten area codes. Ohio utilizes three area code overlay plans, often called overlay complexes. Ohio currently has two area codes, 283 and 380, which are assigned to provide numbering relief but are not yet in service.

Ohio originally had four area codes when the numbering system was established in 1947. These four area codes were sufficient for forty-nine years until 1996 when two additional area codes were put into service and then two more put into service in 1997. All four of the area codes established in 1996 and 1997 were the result of area code splits. Two more area codes were established as area code overlays, area code 234 in 2000 and area code 567 in 2002.
