On October 22, 2014 the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission ordered the implementation of area code 930 to proceed and the start of mandatory 10 digit dialing in area codes 930 and 812 to begin on February 7, 2015. Previously, area code 930 in Indiana was scheduled to be placed into service as an overlay of area code 812 on October 6, 2014. On August 6, 2014 the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission delayed the implementation of area code 930 and the start of mandatory ten digit dialing which was originally scheduled for September 06, 2014. Ten digit dialing (area code + seven digit number) is necessary in the 812/930 overlay because two different homes in the same geographic area can have the same seven digit phone number but each would have a different area code.
