Iowa Area Code Information
Iowa is currently using five area codes. Iowa does not utilize any area code overlays
Iowa originally had three area codes, 319,515, and 712, when the numbering system was established in 1947. It was not until thirty three years later in 2000 that Iowa experienced sufficient growth in population and telephone use to need an additional area code. To meet this increase in demand there were two area code splits. One was in 2000 and the second in 2001.
