UNASSIGNED AREA CODES
Unassigned area codes are reserved for future use and special services. If you receive a call from an unassigned or special use area code listed below it is most likely a spam call spoofing the phone number. Any phone number such as 811-xxx-xxx does not exist. The number 811 will not be assigned as an area code and instead is a reserved number used in the United States to provide a one call access service to protect underground utilities and pipelines.
In the United States the responsibility for area codes is shared by Federal and state authorities. The North American Numbering Plan Administrator (NANP) is responsible for the administration, assignment and management of area codes.
