Area code 737 was put into service. Area code 737 is an overlay of area code 512.
Effective December 1, 2012 permissive 10 digit dialing was implemented. On June 1, 2013 mandatory 10 digit dialing became required. Ten digit dialing (area code + seven digit number) is necessary in the 512/737 overlay because two different homes in the same geographic area can have the same seven digit phone number but each would have a different area code.
