New Area Codes To Be
Placed in Service During 2017
03/11/2017 - New York - Area code 680 in New York is scheduled to be placed into service as overlay of area code 315. Effective February 11, 2017 ten digit dialing in the 315 and 680 area codes will be mandatory.
Ten digit dialing (area code + seven digit number) will be necessary in the 315/680 overlay because two different homes in the same geographic area can have the same seven digit phone number but each would have a different area code.
06/10/2017 - New York - Area code 332 in New York is scheduled to be placed into service as a distributed overlay of area codes 212, 646, and 917. Mandatory ten digit dialing is already required in the existing 212/646/917 overlay area so no change in dialing will be necessary.
08/28/2017 - Washington State - Area code 564 in Washington is scheduled to be placed into service as an overlay of area code 360. Effective July 29, 2017 ten digit dialing in the 360 and 564 area codes will be mandatory.
09/05/2017 - Idaho - Area code 986 in Idaho is scheduled to be placed into service as an overlay of area code 208. Effective August 5, 2017 ten digit dialing in the 208 and 986 area codes will be mandatory.
09/19/2017 - New York - Area code 838 in New York is scheduled to be placed into service as overlay of area code 518. Effective August 19, 2017 ten digit dialing in the 518 and 838 area codes will be mandatory.
09/26/2017 - Pennsylvania - Area code 223 in Pennsylvania is scheduled to be placed into service as overlay of area code 717. Effective August 26, 2017 ten digit dialing in the 223 and 717 area codes will be mandatory.
10/23/2017 - Texas - Area code 726 in Texas is scheduled to be placed into service as an overlay of area code 210. Effective September 23, 2017 ten digit dialing in the 726 and 210 area codes will be mandatory.

06/10/2017 - New York - Mandatory ten-digit dialing is extended to area code 332 when it is implemented as an overlay of existing area codes 212/646/917.
07/29/2017 - Washington State - Mandatory ten-digit dialing begins July 29, 2017 for area codes 360 and 564 in the 360/564 area code overlay.
08/05/2017 - Idaho - Mandatory ten-digit dialing begins August 5, 2017 for area codes 208 and 986 in the new 208/986 area code overlay.
08/19/2017 - New York - Mandatory ten-digit dialing begins August 19, 2017 for area codes 518 and 838 in the 518/838 area code overlay.
08/26/2017 - Pennsylvania - Mandatory ten-digit dialing begins August 26, 2017 for area codes 223 and 717 in the 223/717 area code overlay.
09/23/2017 - Texas - Mandatory ten-digit dialing begins September 23, 2017 for area codes 210 and 726 in the 210/726 area code overlay.
